The Documenta started in 1955, and since 1972 it takes place every five years (see History). It is considered as one of the most important art events worldwide, often named with the misleading term "Worldexpo of the Arts".

According to our project Universes in Universe, which is focused on the visual arts from Africa, Asia, and Latin America in the context of international art processes, our information and photo tours of the different editions of Documenta, are concentrated mainly but not exclusively on participants from these regions.
