Reza Farkhondeh - Biography

Reza Farkhondeh was born in Iran. In 1980 he graduated from the University of Tehran with a B.A. in economics. He remained in Iran after the overthrow of 1979 and became increasingly interested in visual arts. Emigrating to France in 1984, he began studying at the L'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Dijon, and later in Nice at the Villa Arson L'Ecole Pilote Internationale d'Arts et de Recherches, from where he graduated in 1991 with an M.F.A. in video and short film. In 1992 he joined the advanced program for fine arts at the Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastiques in Paris. In 1995 Farkhondeh was included in the Istanbul Biennale, Basel Art Fair and the Grammercy International in New York. During that same year, Farkhondeh moved to the United States and continued painting until 1998, when he returned to producing video and theatre works. In 1998 he also joined the program in acting and directing at Cal Arts. After a period of depression, he returned to painting in 2002. In the course of his career he has exhibited in France, New York, Los Angeles, Turkey, Switzerland and Spain. This is his first exhibition in Southeast Asia.
