Short news & tips Arab Image Foundation Residency Program 2011 The Arab Image Foundation (AIF) Research Center Residency Program offers artists and researchers (academic researchers, curators) the opportunity to engage with the Foundation’s activities on various levels. As a non-profit organization the AIF is dedicated to the collection, preservation and study of photography and other visual material from the Middle East, North Africa and the Arab Diaspora. Established in Beirut in 1997, the foundation currently holds a collection of more than 300,000 photographs, from the mid nineteenth century through today. The AIF Research Center Residency Program supports artists’ projects, curatorial initiatives and academic research on resonant themes that cut across the Arab Image Foundation’s collection and encourages other photographic and archival projects, which foster contextual reflection, inquiry and debate and promotes especially collecting practices based on field specific research.
